Opus

In the nineteenth century, the streets of Paris were paved in oak. The blocks stood on end, their rings facing the sky, cut the way we now call endgrain, and under the weight of carriages and crowds the wood only grew more beautiful with use. A few of those floors still survive, in Paris and around Versailles, walked on for more than a century. We spent years reviving that lost craft, and gave it a pattern the old pavers never imagined. Endgrain is the hardest face of the wood, the same surface a butcher keeps under the knife. Opus draws on it for an organic design that repeats without ever showing where: laid out, the joins disappear and the floor becomes one continuous surface, with no beginning and no end.
