Guido De Groot

History

Superyacht designer Guido de Groot began his career in car and automotive design, a field he worked in for more than six years after graduating from Passadena’s well known school Art Centre College of Design. Inspired in 1986 by the majesty of the fourth, 45 metre Highlander superyacht – constructed by Feadship De Vries – De Groot started to draw yachts in parallel with his car design career, eventually setting up his own interior design and exterior styling studio in 1997 in The Netherlands.

Notable yachts

With a large number of yacht and superyacht projects under his built – including, for example, more than 30 projects with Dutch builder Mulder – significant projects include the interior design and interior decorating of the AB140 custom superyacht Maria Pia, Perini Navi Gitana, and Horizon’s 37 metre luxury yacht Espresso. Exterior designs include the Feadship megayachts Kathleen Anne and Katrion as well as AB Yachts’ high performance AB116.

Specialisations

De Groot’s studio encompasses all sizes of yacht, working in particular with small- to medium-size semi-custom and custom motor yacht builders such as Mulder and Breedendam. The car design experience of several members of the De Groot team also means there is often a style slant to the concept designs that is different from standard custom boat design fare. The Guido de Groot yacht interior for Diamond won a ShowBoats Design Award.
