A Paris-born brand that designs and crafts wood surfaces for architects and interior designers since 2002. OscarOno is not one person. It is a collective of designers, craftsmen and thinkers, with a taste for precision and a habit of breaking the rules.

Five things we agreed on before we agreed on anything else. They are older than most of our collections and have outlived every trend we were asked to follow. When a project comes in, this is what it is measured against.

Architects and designers are the first readers of a floor. For them the house keeps an open table: samples, colors, finishes, a drawing answered with a drawing. We design for you to create.

Nothing here is decorative. Every proportion has a reason, and the reason is rarely the pattern alone. A collection is designed as a whole: the surface, the way it is built, the way it arrives on site, pre-assembled and ready to be laid. Every part of that was intended.

Nothing we make is industrial. Every surface is assembled by hand, one piece at a time, for one project. Machines cut. Hands decide: which block goes where, when the color is right, when a floor is finished. It takes longer. That is the radical part.

Wood is our foundation. Not a trend, a long discipline. Oak above all, and now and then a species we fall in love with, for what it is or for a story worth bringing back. We keep the crack and the knot; that is the part we love. FSC and PEFC certification is where it starts, not where it ends. Our offcuts become Circulaire. Fossile is oak that lay for thousands of years in riverbeds, blackened by minerals. Réserve is teak from trees that fell, or were pushed over by elephants.

Paris once paved its streets with oak, the blocks standing on end, their growth rings to the sky. We had made floors the traditional way for years when we met the designer Raphael Navot. For an exhibition by AD magazine inside the Monnaie de Paris he drew Forêt, the collection we still make today, and almost as an aside a rosace: a forest of endgrain oak laid in a circle. We built it. Forêt, Rosace and the whole Atelier collection carry his hand. They turned the house toward design, for good.

Designed in Paris, handcrafted in Europe, at home in more than one place. Miami gave the house a second address, opened by Roberto Lugo and Teresa Bajandas and carried today by Eddy de Raat. São Paulo followed. Thirty-seven boutique dealers carry the collections, from Tel Aviv to Christchurch. And each year we build a few rooms of our own at the fairs, a red one in Dublin, a striped one in Miami, by hand, for a few days, then gone. What stays is who walked in.
